Taking a Deep Breath

As you all know I am obsessed with hockey. I’m the lady who sat in front of TSN all day on trade deadline day and sighed in both relief and in frustration at what went on that day. I’m also the person who stopped one of the NHL hockey scouts at my gate and chastised him for taking my Ryan Miller and Steve Ott away from by beloved Sabres. (Yeah I asked him first which team he was from and after his admission that he was from St. Louis I had to rake him over the coals a bit…. he was awesome though and his grin was absolute when he said he is going to love having them in their version of blue and gold)

But this past week has been very tough. HockeyBoy has had a bum rap these playoffs and that hasn’t been very fun. Right now we are waiting to have the final toilet bowl game of his life…. well hopefully it will be. Although he has had a few accolades this year we never expected the hope of going on to OMHAs was stalled because of two bad goal calls by the refs…. but that isn’t what I meant to talk about. I wanted to say a few words about how the tragic end to a search for a young man ended yesterday. I have watched Terry Trafford over the last few seasons when the Saginaw Spirit visited the Sarnia Sting. He was always one of those guys I gritted my teeth at when he came full tilt into our end. A hard guy to play against, I wouldn’t have said no to having his grit and determination on our own team. Hearing the young man had gone missing for more than 6 days left little hope and yesterdays announcement that they found his body in his truck was very sad. Rumors are now swirling that he had had a little bit of distension with the team and had been sent home right before the final games of the season. If this had something to do with his death or not I am not here to speculate but to say that these young men have a lot of pressure and without support it is easy to see if things break down the way they sometimes do that tragedy can follow. Whatever the reasons behind his death there has to be some way to help these guys out when they feel pushed aside and I hope the team, the league and the Canadian Hockey Association help to make changes. As a hockey mom who will have a son playing junior hockey next season I want to see those changes immediately.

Out west another young junior player collapsed and is now fighting for his life after being diagnosed with Meningitis a very deadly and scary disease! My prayers are with Tim Bozon, a Montreal Canadiens prospect, and his family, friends and teammates through this time as he continues to fight while in critical condition from contacting this horrible disease.

More bad news came from the NHL when Rich Peverley of the Dallas Stars collapsed without apparent reason on the Stars bench during first period play the other day. This was beyond scary but thankfully he was attended to by both teams medical personel and apparently wanted to be allowed back in the game which they ultimately cancelled. This along with the recent stroke of the Penguins Kris Letang has made for even more scary situations. Whatever the reasons behind the two very apparently healthy athletes recent scares makes it evident that these men drive themselves so hard to achieve and to stay where they are to continue to play the game they love with a determination that goes beyond many can imagine.

I am hoping the best for all these athletes and pray that everyone continues to send prayers up for those still fighting their own battles and those who have passed on and left demands on the organizations to make changes that these pressures are addressed in a timely and thorough manner so we do not have to hear of another tragedy befalling the young men who drive themselves beyond so they can play our favorite game and entertain the fans in the stands and hopefully reach their dreams.

RIP Terry.

OK I might be getting a little excited over a Rep league game but for a bunch of boys who have either lost by one goal or tied almost every game this season so far a win is a big thing.  Too bad it wasn’t a pretty thing.  The penaties were a bit one sided IMO and for our team.  The boys were down three forwards so a couple of call ups had to step in and help but they did get the job done.  Like I said it wasn’t pretty but it was a “W” so we will take it after last weekends B cup finalists maybe things are looking up.  Oh and HockeyBoy scored a nice one as well.

Its been a busy week and unfortunately no reviews have been getting done.  What have I been doing?  Well remember that NaNoWriMo thing?  Well I have embraced it over the last three days and have put up some pretty good numbers.  I am going to focus on that this week and getting my business proposal finished.  Right now I am at over 9200 in three days of writing so hopefully I can keep up the pace and get this done.  The idea for this novel has been in my head for two years.  Two years of coming up with ideas and scribbling them on a pad of paper or making an addition to the file “feeble attempt one” on my laptop.  This one though combines my two favorite genre’s: Hockey Romance and Vampires.  Yep the Hockeyvamp is writing a hockeyvamp book.  So far I have been told it doesn’t suck and I think you have something there.  I need to build on that and make them say it is amazeballs or wow that book is smoking hawt!

In between that this week I worked a Sting game, had an MRI on my shoulder again and drove to London to take Cadet Kid to see Hotel Transylvania which was really fun and a nice dry place to spend Halloween instead of out in the miserable rain and cold.  Coming up its going to be a busy week.  Cadet Kid is going to have a bunch of Rememberance Day services to do and Hockey Boy has an out of town game.  Then next weekend we are gearing up for more hockey, services and Cadet Kid taking part in the colour guard at the game and then our arena is hosting one of the OHL vs Russia games.  I cannot say how excited I am for this one.  Wow.  It’s going to be fun and I am going to be hella busy.  Please don’t forget about me if I am missing in action for a few days.  Give me some comments to reply to and maybe it will force me to come back and give you an update in between.  Possibly getting a few more reviews for you to enjoy in between.

Keep your stick on the ice!~

PS This post is dedicated to those powers that be that have stolen my pro hockey away from me this year.  You guys really suck!

Just getting back in to the swing of things after a weekend away to watch HockeyBoy play a tournament in Kincardine Ontario.  I must say that the boys took their up hill fight to find some “W’s” in stride and put up a great effort and delivered some exciting hockey.  Game night one saw us up against the home team,  not so much fun when all the calls were one sided and the hometown crowd and in fact the announcing were only seeing orange as well.  I have to say that as a tournament they really showed no respect for anyone paying the big bux to come and take part in an event that made money for their club.  The home team was the ONLY team that got music played for during their games and the use of the air horn…. which were banned for anyone else entering the building.  As it was the Petrolia team, after a Friday night full of bonding adventures, came out strong and won back to back games on Saturday giving them a birth in the B finals the next afternoon.  Sunday came in cold and damp as the weather started showing the potential of its strength as the edges of Sandy made its way to the shores of the lake.  Not ready to go down without swinging, the Ptown boys fought hard and came out of an end to end battle with a 2-2 tie forcing not one but two overtimes to decide it on a wraparound that slid underneath our very weary goalie.  In all they played pretty damn good hockey for going in to the tournament with two forwards sitting out leaving them with only 12 total skaters and in the final OT’s with only 11 on the bench.

In addition to the games I did manage to find the new location of a used book store I remember going to a long time ago and having a great conversation with the owner about my obsession.  🙂  If you are in Kincardine take a look for Condor Fine Books up on Queen St.  or check them out at www.condorfinebooks.com I was also happy to find a quirky dollar store that had a great selection of nail polish that I tried out on the Saturday and went back to stock up with on Sunday before the game.

Just a short post today. I have been suffering this weekend, to rather last week so I am still working under not so nice conditions. Number one was this cold. Drowning myself in Nyyquil/Dayquil and Vicks chest rub just to get things done. I had a lot to hockey to watch since last Thurs too. 2 Jr Sting games, 2 OHL Sting games and I caught about a games an some extensive highlights if 2 Buffalo Sabres games. Yes I know that is probably why this cold iskicking my ass but it couldn’t be helped. I am an addict!
Final total of games were 4 wins 2 close losses and another win for away game I didn’t to to to watch for my 3 teams.

Now I am waiting for son to get home . Carpool duty to practice tonight. Big week for HockeyBoy this week but I will wait to recap later in that. In the mean time I am writing this post in my cruz tablet. Why? I in longer have working netbook. Accident happened. Now am waiting to she if I can find a good deal with the black Friday Cyber Monday sales. With that said I am having hard enough time writing short post in my tablet. Let alone write reviews. So the WAITING GAMES begin
I will say in closing that my personal reads this week have been awesome!

A Novel Seduction by Gwyn Cready
Midnight Sins by Lora Leigh

Both were dellicious.

I read a bunch to ebooks back well but forgot to keep a list. Ooopsy

So I am off for now. Wish am luck in my hunt. If you she something I might want email tweet or leave a comment!

Thanks

Hi followers.  I know I promised myself that I would be diligent at getting this blog up and running and posting at a regular interval but its been a few weeks of chaos here for me.

I have been trying to clear up a bunch of reviews I need done and have been on a long road trip to Chicago since my last post.  On top of that I have been struggling with a cold/allergies that have given me a kick in the butt.

My trip to Chicago was totally different for me than when HockeyBoy and I went by ourselves last year when he played for Team Ontario for the State Wars Inline Championship.  This time we traveled with another player and his mom and riding all the way (over 6 hours in the vehicle) in the back of a mini van was a little less entertaining than being up front and getting a front seat view of the sites along the way.  This time, however, we did not see a man with a 10″ strap-on attached to his chin and face while skirting through Indiana so it was a bummer for that alone. LOL

The boys played hard though, we saw what it was like to play in a “rich” environment and they won 2 out of 4 games with the two losses only by one goal.   This was with 2 players down that didn’t make the trip and 2 players who have always played defense on forward.  HockeyBoy got a goal and at least 4 assists so he did well.   They played two games at a private campus highschool that was out of this world for me.  At over $45 grand a year without extra’s we got a taste of what the prep schools that shows like Gossip Girl are based would be like.  I thought it was pure fiction but that school proved me wrong.  🙂  Got a lot of shopping done though in between the games and this time it was mostly for myself ….. yah for Old Navy sales and a big discounted sale at Christopher and Banks.

Bookthong orders that were on tap have all been sent out and I am hoping that there will be some more requests in my inbox soon.  Let me know what you need.  I am here to serve.

Back at home now and have been hit by this cold.  Slowing me down a bit but after a week of carting kids to practices, team bonding events and cadet meetings I took some time to do something I have been waiting for months for…….

I went with two of my boys, HockeyBoy and RugbyGuy to see The Immortals.  Wow.  I love my Henry Cavill and he didn’t disappoint…… although I would have loved a little more skin. LOL.  Actually there was a lot of skin, sexy abs and drool worthy thighs but no butt….. I hoped that there was going to be some butt shots for me to enjoy but alas no glutes.  🙂

With that said I am back at hockey again tonight.  HockeyBoy plays out of town and Sabres (I have been silent so far on my thoughts this week at my boys play because I am awaiting the verdict on the ass Lucic’s hit on Miller and that will be an entire post on its own) have games tonight.

Books I have read this week for my pleasure include Midnight Sins by Lora Leigh, Much Ado About Vampires by Katie MacAlister and In Bed with a Highlander by Maya Banks.

On the top of my personal TBR pile this week are A Novel Seduction by Gwyn Cready and some Lorie O’Clare yumminess.

Thanks for stopping by.  I am hoping to get this blog tweeked very soon to include some of my recent reviews.  Cheers!

Hello Blog world.  I am trying something new.  Something hopefully fresh and exciting for me and all of you.  Many in the blogging and twitter world who follow romance writers know me as the Hockeyvampiress.  I still answer to that name.  I am still going to be around twitter and facebook and hope you will enjoy what I am doing here.

Many know my love of paranormal romance and my connection (which is still ongoing) with Bitten By Books who gave me my first taste in reviewing.  Here I will be posting reviews of books I purchase myself, win, or am gifted through my favorite authors by spreading the word as members of various street teams.   I love almost all genre’s and although there are ones that pull me in more than another I hope to spread my opinion on various books.

I also will be making comments about my favorite sports.  OK sport for the most part.  I love hockey.  In particular I love the Buffalo Sabres.  I live in an arena almost as much as I do at home and cannot have enough.  In fact this season I decided that I didn’t have enough.  I took a job as an usherette for our local OHL team.  GO STING GO!

Finally I will be promoting my small independent business making bookthongs.  These custom bookthongs are made of awesome.  In fact the early attempts in designing and mastering these little pretties could have the added comment that they are made of blood.   Many top authors have taken advantage of my low prices and have had nothing but good things to say about them.  Your bookcover could be miniaturized forever in enamel.  Want something a little different?  What about your family members, favorite actor, pets, or maybe your favorite team logo?  Just about anything can be done.  Combined with a variety of beads and gossimer ribbon and you will want nothing else in the crack of your book again.

Finally there may be the random post about my favorite actor. Henry Cavill….. I claimed the Immortal God/Superman long before he became the hot property he is now.

Thanks for stopping by and for following.  And YES.  There will be a contest very soon.  Probably as soon as I return from my sons hockey tournament this weekend……

🙂 Shell
