Simon Says: Tips for the Intrepid Time Traveler by Rysa Walker

5 Hockeystyxxx

Simon Says

Rysa Walker has become a must read for me. A very good friend kept urging me that I was missing something before I picked up Time Bound and he was right. The characters that Ms. Walker develops are very believable and have very captivating personalities that make you love or hate them. Simon Rand, affectionately known as Rat Bastard, is one you hate. Even after this glimpse into the inner mind of this character I really have no real affection for him. He is, a bastard in more than one definition of the word. Simon is a time traveler thanks to his wizardry with the Chronos key and in my opinion, with his personality being a mixture of idiot savant with a touch of evil, he grows up fast and hard and doesn’t have any qualms about who’s rules he breaks. Even the master mind behind the Cyrists, Saul, who plans every move he makes like a chess game he always wins is a little more likable than Simon.

In this novella, we see Simon as a kid before he truly was twisted by the fates of time and crossing times over and over again. His connection with his “friend” Kiernan is just beginning to be explored and it gives me a little bit more empathy for him…..just a little bit though. Especially when we see that his obsession and his determination to find out what truly happened cause him to set the history of a nation spiraling because he jumps before thinking it through. This along with his other experiments with the key as well as his work for the Cyrists, Brother Cyrus and Saul are only just starting though and one can hope that some way we get to see him stumble a few more times. I must strongly recommend that the reader start with Time Bound though to get the full emotion and direction of the series and the dynamic characters Ms. Walker has created. Even Simon, a character that I still haven’t much affection for is an amazing character and his story was a great read that filled in more blanks in the Chronos key world. I was given this copy for an honest review.

I say FINALLY because I have been waiting to read this book for quite some time.  As what some might say a “recent” fan of Dr. Who and time travel interests in general this book has been twisting in my peripheral for quite some time.  (although I must say that if you really want to get into specifics time travel roms have always interested me and Gwyn Cready’s series is still one of my faves despite the connection to Pittsburgh…. hehehe….. sorry you can’t take the hockey completely out of me…. and as many know I am not a Pens fan) But wait…… I was talking about this amazing book by Rysa Walker called Timebound that I adored!  So without any more diversions here is what I thought and why I think you should all go and purchase this one immediately!!!

Kate is your typical teenager trying to deal with normal girl things.

Boys.  Best Friends.  School.  Family.

Splitting her time between divorced parents homes and trying not to chose a side between them especially when her estranged grandmother comes to her with an offer she cannot refuse, Kate has no idea who to believe. When she is attacked on her way to school by a man who steals her backpack and the bizarre book her grandmother had given her a handsome stranger helps her out; but not without giving her a warning and a kiss that brought a vision of more.  When she gets back to her grandmother and the sanctuary of her home, things gets even more twisted in her life when her very existence is threatened.  She has no choice but to believe in what her grandmother and her assistant have told her….  That she carries a gene that allows her to travel through time when she goes to her school and witnesses for herself that she does not exist in the current timeline.  Meeting a guy that not only believes her when she spills her secrets but wants to help her is her bright light through dealing with the loss of her whole life as she knew it but when she must go back in time and stop a threat to her grandmother that will bring massive changes to the world as they know it she has to go it alone.  Headed back to Chicago and the Worlds Fair of 1893, Kate encounters many obstacles as she tries to stop not only a murder but catastrophic changes in reality that will change the world forever.  All while facing the reality that if she is successful she will lose the person that helped her through the worst days of her life.

I’m stopping from giving any more “spoilers” and saying please pick this one up for yourself.  Yes it is of the Y/A genre but it doesn’t read like a lot of those in that category. It is a captivating read that has me salivating for more.  Kate’s journey through this book is never boring and it moves at a very fast pace.  The poor girl is thrown so many curves in the span this, her first story, but she bats away almost every threat with the maturity of a woman who has lived many lives.  The fact that this is in itself true set aside.  Dealing with losing everyone she loved, the suspected betrayal of those who should embrace her, and the multiple realities that have her heart split between two guys who love her and are willing to sacrifice everything to save her is a lot for anyone but Kate pulls no punches.  She keeps kicking and fighting and I can’t wait to see where the future takes her…. or shall I say the past? Good Cop:Heroes of Henderson Book 1 by Liz Kelly

Good Cop:
Heroes of Henderson Book 1

4 1/2 Hockeystyxxx

Lolly Duval has plans to make it big as a designer but before she finishes school there are a few things she wants to get a step up on while back in Henderson for the summer. The plan was for those two things to be modifying the new athletic cup she had been working on and the other was her own designs for the upcoming show. Instead she finds herself caught in between two handsome police officers and it isn’t a bad place to be! Sexy and stalwart, and all around good guy, Brooks Bennett had been more than a crush of hers forever but the sinfully delicious bad boy Vance Evans could certainly turn her head if her heart wasn’t already taken. Agreeing to help them both was full of good intent but when the lines get crossed and the summer heat escalates she needs to make a stand and let them both know who owns her heart.

Brooks Bennett, good cop, stand up guy, and Golden Boy of Henderson had major plans of his own. Getting Henderson on the map as one of the best places to live in America was up there along with his plans to run and win the mayoral race next election. Having the right woman by his side was a part of that dream and for as long as he could think Lolly DuVal had been the “right woman”. Taking a leap when he heard she was going to be back in town for not only his sisters engagement party but the summer he made sure he had her on his arm for at least the party if not many more nights during the summer. If Vance had not had his hands on her feet the first time he saw her again things might have been less complicated but of course, the seducer of Henderson, the bad boy himself, was involved and thanks to him Lolly would be part and parcel of both their summers. He needed to step up his game and play by the other book if he hoped to win the heart of the girl who stole his years ago.

Vance Evans was not only the “Bad Cop” he was the epitome of the bad boy! Women were an easy conquest of his but once they were bed he didn’t want anything to do with them. Why couldn’t he just like a woman? He wanted the whole package. He wanted a wife and kids, especially now that he had hit the ripe old age of 30 but he had never been able to like a woman let alone fall in love with one. Lolly was a perfect fit for his plan. Hanging out, playing sports and learning how to appreciate a woman as a friend was just what he needed to get on the right track but when he finds that he wants to cross the line with her and become more than just friends he might lose everything else he cherishes along the way.

My procurement of this book was not totally on the up and up…well that is if the inscription is to be believed. “Shell, thanks for stealing my Good Cop!” To be honest, the book was just sitting there waiting to be claimed and I did qualify to pick it as my prize, I just skipped the line because it was the last one on the table! LOL I am so glad I did! But if you want to send one of these handsome cops after me bring on the cuffs! I loved the sexy and fun banter between Lolly and her guys! Lolly is fun loving, cute and has a smart sassy attitude that I loved! The guys are uuuunnnnnffff! Yummy! Sexy! Fun! And I was honestly back and forth in my dedication between them throughout…. and TBH was really looking forward to a little threesome action! Bennett is just…. well I can’t seem to say, he was awesome, more than awesome! And Vance is… gah! You know… I still am torn. This is why it was such a good book! I know who I wanted to win Lolly’s heart but I to this day continue to waver back and forth! On top of this was the secondary romance of two characters that gave the reader a little more spice since our “Good Cop” was adamant about making things perfect for his love. Yeah. Maybe that’s it! Bennett was perfect! Vance was perfect! OK that didn’t help! Buy this book and help me figure it out! Oh and BTW…. I would totally steal both the Good Cop again….and the Bad Cop too!

DHS Agent Landon Walker had been hiding from the world for too long. Dealing with the loss of his fiancee over a year before he knew he had to come back to the living. He needed to start building the relationships with his friends again that he had left neglected for so long. Walking out of his grandmothers house he opens his arms to help a woman running from the demons chasing her and soon finds that her courage and strength is the balm he needs to help heal him.

Tori Cox needed to get away from the abusive relationship she was in. Going home to Bisbee and her parents was the first step in breaking the hold her boyfriend held on her. Walking down the street to find she remembered almost everything from her youth growing up there was helping her accept that she had finally done the right thing despite leaving her belongings behind. Stumbling into a murder in progress she runs for her life and finds herself in the arms of a tall dark stranger….a stranger she needs to protect her from all the people hunting her down.

Stepping away from the attraction he felt for Tori wasn’t an option despite the dangers to both of them. She needed his help, he needed to help her and together they needed to prove to themselves that they deserved to fight for each other. The dangers threatening them are very deadly and there is nothing more important in their fight than to trust in the love they share.

My very first stumbles into the world of Cheyenne McCray were Chosen Prey and Moving Target and with them I was hooked into her books and devoured as many as I could get a hold of. When I heard that the new series, Lawmen, was a part of this same world I was hungry to get my hands on the book! Thankfully I wasn’t kept waiting too long and in a day I had fed my appetite with this hot sexy read. Landon is still recouping from an accident that changed his life but is ready to emerge from his self preservation world of too much work and too much alcohol. The tall, sexy and brooding DHS agent gets more than he asks for when Tori runs into his life. Literally! Tori’s world had always been her music and sharing it with the world but after her relationship runs sour she needs to start fresh. Starting over never was supposed to come with threats to not only her life but the lives of everyone who she had ever cared for. Ms. McCray is brilliant as she wraps you up in Tori’s flight for her life and Landon’s re-emergence from his self inflicted exile from the world. This suspenseful romance is a brilliant ride from start to finish with emotional twists and turns that this reader never saw coming as they fought for their lives, their love and their future together.

Tall Dark and Vampire by Sara Humphreys

Tall, Dark, and Vampire

Tall, Dark, and Vampire

5 Tombstones

Olivia Hollingsworth had been haunted by the one man she had lost for centuries. One man who had only shared one night with her but she had lost her heart to for an eternity. Thoughts that she had put him behind her had been brought back to focus twenty years ago when the dreams began but she never thought that it meant that there was more to it than a life time of celibacy and the resulting sexual frustration. Seeing her “Douglas” walk into her bar wasn’t something she had expected but when he was investigating a murder that had connections to her coven she had to protect those in her care first before she trusted the man who turned her libido on after centuries in the off position.

Detective Doug Paxton had some knowledge of the paranormal world but he didn’t want to dwell on things he really didn’t want to accept. People close to him had opened his eyes to the possibility but acceptance was another thing. Walking into the bar and seeing the woman who had been haunting his very sexual dreams for what seemed like forever couldn’t be just a coincidence right? Nothing was as simple as that, especially when his investigation into recent murders kept bringing him back into her orbit and his desire for the flesh and blood version of the sexy red-head was even more intense than the connection they shared in his dreams.

Someone was out to get Olivia and it seemed to be personal but that didn’t stop her from thinking of the sexy detective constantly and wanting to find out just what connection they shared. Digging into the investigation all leads kept bringing him back to Olivia and it isn’t all good when he wakes up after being attacked. Wakes up with news that his life as he knew it had been forever changed and the woman herself was the one to decide his fate. Despite everything they must push things aside and work together now more than ever to get rid of the threat before more people lose their life to whoever has a vendetta against them.

Wow… just wow. This has the taste of one hell of a series. The spin off from Humphreys Amoveo series, this book is a great jumping off point for a fantastic vampire collection. Olivia and Doug are awesome together. Doug’s reluctance to accept his fate makes the tension in the book jump up and wrap around your heart as does Olivia’s turmoil for her part in his change. My emotions were tugged left and right throughout their story as they deal with acceptance of the past, their real connection as bloodmates and what the future holds because of who they really are. The twists and turns and revelations in this book will keep the reader on the edge of their seat! I am hungry for more already!

Vampire Trouble by Sara Humphreys

Shane Quesada, Presidium Sentry had been existing. Doing what was needed to protect the current czar’s and those before them. Never did he imagine that the legend was true about a bloodmate and never did he think that he would find his in the form of a feisty newly turned vampire with a turbulent past.

Maya wanted more than working in the bar for her maker. She needed to remember her past, find a way to stop hating the world and have some adventure along the way. Taking a position in another bar with a very different vampire than the ones she was with was a start. Dealing with the visiting werewolf royalty would give her something else to concentrate on other than the continued dreams of her violent past and of the sexy vampire that somehow breached her mind and was now becoming a totally different focus for her. One that she wasn’t sure she could handle.

Leaving the city together, the two escape the threat that is after Maya but find themselves entering a very different threat. One that neither wanted to fight as they give in to the bloodmate bond that would bring them closer to each other than any before. With the incite of a powerful gypsy, they find more than they expected when looking into Maya’s past and with that new knowledge it gives her a new weapon to use against the threat chasing her down.

This is one powerful, heart wrenching and emotional story. As much as I loved Tall, Dark and Vampire I think I lost my heart to Shane in this story. The stalwart vampire had always followed the rules, kept to himself and fought for the Presidium, never thinking of himself or his wants and needs. His connection to Maya is beautiful, their journey emotional and touching as she found a way to release the “demons” chasing her and give in to her desires to be loved by a man and push the terrors behind her. Maya is a strong heroine and she captivated me with her determination and the way she pushed through even after her heart was crushed to do what was right for everyone in their world. I was most impressed with the way she grew and blossomed from a self centered creature to one who was willing to sacrifice for everyone from one book to the next made this book hard to put down. Kudos Ms. Humphreys! Can’t wait to read the next one!

Highland Dawn by Donna Grant

HIghland Dawn

Moira had thought she would always be alone. Although she was happy to watch the love her sisters had found she knew if she was to fulfil her part of the prophecy she would never have a family or love of her own. There had only been one man she had ever thought of in that way anyway. Dartayous. The Druid warrior who both intrigued and frustrated her.
Dartayous had promised to keep Moira safe. One vow he took very seriously no matter how the woman turned him inside out. He could not tell her why he kept her and every other woman before her at arms length. Why he poked and prodded her instead of pulling her close and letting her know what she did to him.

Sent together to fulfill the prophecy and do their part to help release the fae from their prison they find a young babe who tugs at Moira’s heart but she had a destiny and being a mother was not a part of it and would never be with her heart belonging to the stubborn warrior with her on the journey. Taking a babe along with them will not aid them on their quest but when the woman asks to bring him along with them asks he knows he cannot deny her and say no to the woman he had ever loved, and for an immortal that was a very long time. Arriving at the destined spot they find out the old crones prediction was right and they did in fact have the key to the fae world with them the entire time but there was no easy path to follow when another has plans for Moira. Plans of a man that had already caused her and her family pain and suffering and that included making her the new Queen and taking over both worlds.
Lugus had set in motion his plans but unless the fates could be changed they could be the downfall of both the fae and the human realms forever.

Donna Grant has been a fave of mine since I read her Sisters of Magic series years ago. My addiction to her Dark Warrior series is not a secret either. So too this series, and this, the final chapter in the Druids Glen series. Moira is a strong woman and her heart is the most generous and strongest part of her as she keeps its secret desires hidden even from herself at times then opens it up to not only the man she loves but gives a part of it to another who is not as deserving when she sees his true self beneath the guise he has worn for most of his life. Dartayous is a warrior through and through but the secret he keeps hidden deters him from what he has desired most and the one that could make him happy and whole. Their journey is not easy and they are both tested but when they both are forced to chose it is one path that they both walk down, together and forever. Another great read from Ms. Grant and one I would highly recommend!

My Three Lords by Juniper Bell

Miss Alicia Silverwood was used to being around men. Her brothers had made sure of that fact but she never expected that her future would include not one but three. Married to one, playmate to another and reason to live for another.

A bet by the new groom, the Earl of Dorchester, might not have been the best thing to admit to a new bride. Especially when it entails betting she would be satisfied with just a strong cock against his friend the Marquis de Beaumont who is determined that he can use his skill as a rake to gain her favor. With the attention of both men Alicia should be content and happy to be loved as such with two giving males. Missing something she has no thought to look elsewhere until the mysterious green eyed stranger sets upon their door. The Duke of Warrington never lets anyone see his true self but she realizes that he is not a stranger but something much more. Someone who can give her the part that is missing from her life. The love of a man with not only his body but his heart and soul.

This erotic escape was full of naughtiness and fun! Miss Alicia is one lucky lady when she finds herself with not one man in her bed after saying I Do but three. Three men who are very different and give her very different things but combined give her everything she ever dreamed about.

Never Seduce a Scot by Maya Banks

King Alexander II sent a decree to Lairds Armstrong and Montgomery that neither clan could ignore. There would be a wedding and his most valued supporters would have to put their hatred towards each other aside as they would join their families as soon as possible putting all their animosity in the past. Graeme Montgomery could not believe that his line would now end with him after the King had ordered him to take the daft woman to be his bride. What could come of a union with a woman who was sheltered because of her infirmary?

Eveline Armstrong had lost her hearing after a fall escaping a wedding to a man who was adept at hiding his true self to even her own family. A man with two faces. The loving, caring ‘husband to be’ and nobleman to everyone else; and the torturing, vile, lecherous man to his bride. Losing the use of her voice was altogether another problem. What started out as her taking time to recuperate ended up as the only way out of a marriage from hell. At the Montgomery keep Eveline soon has an ally in her sister in law, Rorie. Her secret now in danger of being revealed she needs to find a way to tell her husband that she is not daft but scared of Ian McHugh and the life she needed to escape.

Eveline finds her way into the hearts of the new clan but not before she slaves herself causing irreparable rifts between the Laird and the women of the castle. Realizing their mistake too late when she is betrayed and kidnapped and it will take a true truce and merging of the two enemies to defeat the kidnapper and save Eveline from the fate awaiting her.

Maya Banks never disappoints. Picking up a thrilling contemporary, an erotic historical or a sexy highland escape that has Ms. Bank’s name on the cover always delivers a story that will wrap you up in emotion, titillate your senses and have you scouring for more as soon as they book is back on the nightstand. Needless to say book hangovers are pretty much a given when I pick up her books and this one did not disappoint. Graeme and Eveline’s story was all of what I said above and more. Eveline was a strong and brave heroine who had to find a way to survive, giving up a connection that she once shared with her family and with the horses she loved to protect herself from the threat that hung over her life. Graeme is a gruff and battle scarred warrior but he opens his heart to the woman he is forced to wed and soon finds himself captivated by the beauty that his silent but determined wife by his side. I hate to be cliché but I cannot wait for more highland tales from Ms. Banks and am positive that it will prove to be another delicious escape.

Sharing Hailey by Samantha Ann King

4 Hockeystyxxx

Hailey Anderson had been in love with her brothers’ best friends forever but she could neither choose between the two or let one or both of them go from her life. Even though she had dreamed of being more than a “kid sister” to them for years she could not stop herself from wanting both men. Mark Allen and Tony Adamo had waited for Hailey while she stumbled in and out of relationships and inevitably came to them each time they fell apart. Waiting forever it seemed for her to step up and make a choice between the two, they had both loved her for far too long to wait any longer. This last breakup only pushed them further especially when the man threatened her. They had had enough and they were going to make her see that she needed to make a decision because two men who loved her were through waiting. They couldn’t chose and if she didn’t well then they would just share.

The problem is they had neither Tony nor Mark had any idea it was going to truly be a threesome relationship. Shocking both of them as much as they had ever been with the level of intimacy between themselves when they found pleasure in her bed. Daniel, her ex, isn’t finished though and his attacks are escalating but with bringing the cops in on it there are some questions that need to be answered. When they are forced to extremes to protect themselves they must find a way to deal with the aftermath, face the truth of their relationship and re-evaluate the connection that they share.

This book brought the heat. I was totally wrapped up in this story and screaming for more! I loved their intimacy, feeling the emotion as they explored their feelings for each other and struggled to make sense out of their hearts craving for a more permanent connection between the three that they had never entertained before. I wanted more of the Mark and Tony explorations but my one disappointment was that I was left hanging in that department with only a taste to whet my appetite instead of a grand buffet of M/M/F intimacies. If you want to explore this genre a little further and are just testing the waters it is a delicious choice for biting into a ménage for the first time and one that kept an open to anything reader like me captivated as well.
