Hey everyone! Hope things are well with all my loyal followers. I am just getting into the swing of things again and today you will see two new posts as a result. Crossing fingers that more are to come very soon!

Recently I was able to knock one major item off my bucket list! I was able to visit New Orleans! Yes! I will blog more on it later with some pics but will touch on a few things here today. Number one…. It was amazing despite not getting out of the French Quarter and visiting the rest of the city! I was there for the Romantic Times convention and it did not disappoint! Besides taking a walk by myself to the square I met with some new friends and walked to the cemetery suspected to be the final resting spot for Marie Laveau, got a little tipsy during a walk down Bourbon Street, bartered to buy some awesome earrings and stood on a roof top and looked down over it all one night.

Another part of this was the convention itself. Thanks to my room mate Jenni I was invited to lunch with some very awesome ladies! One of the talented women was Sara Humphreys. (Who I just realized used to be on Another World which I watched loyally from the time I was a kid with my Gramma until it went off the air in the late nineties!) Such a beautiful woman and an inspiration to someone trying to lose weight after deciding it was time to make a change in my life…. I won’t say that we were eating some delicious pizza for lunch… but the gracious lady gave me a couple of her books while I was there and despite having about 100 to chose from when I got home one of hers was one of the first couple that I pulled out of the pile to devour. And devour I did! Tall, Dark and Vampire was an amazing read and to my delight I was able to get my hands on a copy of the sequel Vampire Trouble as well. It releases July 1 so be sure to pick it up! I hope you enjoy the brief reviews below of both these tasty vampire delights! Thank you Sara for being so awesome and getting me hooked on this new series!

Tall Dark and Vampire by Sara Humphreys

Tall, Dark, and Vampire

Tall, Dark, and Vampire

5 Tombstones

Olivia Hollingsworth had been haunted by the one man she had lost for centuries. One man who had only shared one night with her but she had lost her heart to for an eternity. Thoughts that she had put him behind her had been brought back to focus twenty years ago when the dreams began but she never thought that it meant that there was more to it than a life time of celibacy and the resulting sexual frustration. Seeing her “Douglas” walk into her bar wasn’t something she had expected but when he was investigating a murder that had connections to her coven she had to protect those in her care first before she trusted the man who turned her libido on after centuries in the off position.

Detective Doug Paxton had some knowledge of the paranormal world but he didn’t want to dwell on things he really didn’t want to accept. People close to him had opened his eyes to the possibility but acceptance was another thing. Walking into the bar and seeing the woman who had been haunting his very sexual dreams for what seemed like forever couldn’t be just a coincidence right? Nothing was as simple as that, especially when his investigation into recent murders kept bringing him back into her orbit and his desire for the flesh and blood version of the sexy red-head was even more intense than the connection they shared in his dreams.

Someone was out to get Olivia and it seemed to be personal but that didn’t stop her from thinking of the sexy detective constantly and wanting to find out just what connection they shared. Digging into the investigation all leads kept bringing him back to Olivia and it isn’t all good when he wakes up after being attacked. Wakes up with news that his life as he knew it had been forever changed and the woman herself was the one to decide his fate. Despite everything they must push things aside and work together now more than ever to get rid of the threat before more people lose their life to whoever has a vendetta against them.

Wow… just wow. This has the taste of one hell of a series. The spin off from Humphreys Amoveo series, this book is a great jumping off point for a fantastic vampire collection. Olivia and Doug are awesome together. Doug’s reluctance to accept his fate makes the tension in the book jump up and wrap around your heart as does Olivia’s turmoil for her part in his change. My emotions were tugged left and right throughout their story as they deal with acceptance of the past, their real connection as bloodmates and what the future holds because of who they really are. The twists and turns and revelations in this book will keep the reader on the edge of their seat! I am hungry for more already!

Vampire Trouble by Sara Humphreys

Vampire Trouble

Vampire Trouble

5 Tombstones

Shane Quesada, Presidium Sentry had been existing. Doing what was needed to protect the current czar’s and those before them. Never did he imagine that the legend was true about a bloodmate and never did he think that he would find his in the form of a feisty newly turned vampire with a turbulent past.

Maya wanted more than working in the bar for her maker. She needed to remember her past, find a way to stop hating the world and have some adventure along the way. Taking a position in another bar with a very different vampire than the ones she was with was a start. Dealing with the visiting werewolf royalty would give her something else to concentrate on other than the continued dreams of her violent past and of the sexy vampire that somehow breached her mind and was now becoming a totally different focus for her. One that she wasn’t sure she could handle.

Leaving the city together, the two escape the threat that is after Maya but find themselves entering a very different threat. One that neither wanted to fight as they give in to the bloodmate bond that would bring them closer to each other than any before. With the incite of a powerful gypsy, they find more than they expected when looking into Maya’s past and with that new knowledge it gives her a new weapon to use against the threat chasing her down.

This is one powerful, heart wrenching and emotional story. As much as I loved Tall, Dark and Vampire I think I lost my heart to Shane in this story. The stalwart vampire had always followed the rules, kept to himself and fought for the Presidium, never thinking of himself or his wants and needs. His connection to Maya is beautiful, their journey emotional and touching as she found a way to release the “demons” chasing her and give in to her desires to be loved by a man and push the terrors behind her. Maya is a strong heroine and she captivated me with her determination and the way she pushed through even after her heart was crushed to do what was right for everyone in their world. I was most impressed with the way she grew and blossomed from a self centered creature to one who was willing to sacrifice for everyone from one book to the next made this book hard to put down. Kudos Ms. Humphreys! Can’t wait to read the next one!

Forsaken by the Others by Jess Haines

Book 5 in the H & W Investigations Series

4.5 Hockeystyxxx

Shiarra Waynest has doubts about waking up in the vampires arms but now that she has made her decision hopefully things will work out. Well, that is what she hopes after confronting him with her fears despite the myriad of interruptions from his minions while they try and hash things out, add to that she is taken down by whatever is still coursing through her body. Troubled with the circumstances she is floored when Royce decides to send her and her best friend away for her own safety. WTH? Pushed aside just when she had finally given in to their connection?

Landing in LA Shia and Sara are supposed to stay low key, accept the hospitality of Clyde (head vampire of Los Angeles) and keep in contact with Royce in case things change. Yeah, it wouldn’t be an exciting read if any of those things happened. Landing smack dab into the middle of some kind of turf war, they are immediately forced into service (private investigator service that is) and sent out to find out who is controlling a pack of rabid zombies that are attacking Clyde’s vampires. As well they have to deliver a special package to a Goliath werewolf (the name says it all) which may or may not be a death wish in itself. All the while they are dealing more than a few speed bumps including being babysat by a bitchy vampire body guard and having no phone to contact Royce to let him know what kind of a shit storm they landed in. Shia and Sara find help from a couple of unlikely sources, NOT the vampire who was supposed to be protecting them, while they deal with the betrayal, backstabbing and zombie apocalypse invading their California escape but will it be enough when Shia realizes she had been used as a pawn in a much larger and deadlier game.

Right now I want to crawl in Jess Haines brainzzz and pull out the rest of the story. (No this is not a pun on it being a zombie infused book…well maybe) Why? Because not only did she wrap me back up in Shia’s story but she left me hanging….again! What is it with these cliffhanger storylines? Does she not love her readers enough to give them that little bit extra to hold them over until the next book comes out? Ha! I think she likes to tease and taunt her readers with an edge of the seat storyline then leaving off while the danger and intrigue is at its peak! Oh and I won’t even go in to the lack of Royce in this story. For a Team Royce member there was a definite lack of fulfillment in that regard. Seriously, throw us a bone! On another note though there are so many other questions that are needing answers I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book. Shia’s got another difficult mess to get out of but more importantly she has yet to deal with both her emotions from being tied to Royce and the physical ramifications from whatever is coursing through her blood. I cannot wait for the next book in this series. Seriously I can’t wait! I wonder if Ms. Haines would accept a bribe to leave her day job, abandon twitter and get on this asap?!

Take it Like a Vamp by Candace Havens

5 Hockeystyxxx

Casey loved curling up and watching her favorite vampire television show Night Angels with the sexiest man alive but even as she accepted his friendship she knew that there was no way the tall, handsome, gazzillionaire would go for her. She was… well her body had curves, a lot of curves, despite pretty much giving up on carbs since her neighbor decided to spend so much time keeping her company in between his rotating line up of Barbie dates. It didn’t stop her from naming her favorite toy Mr. Nick though.
Nick knew that Casey was not the right woman for him. She was human and even being near him she stirred up a passion and desire like he had never known before. He couldn’t take away her humanity to be with him. The council, forcing him to declare his bride wanted it done this week or he would lose his presidency. Gave in to his craving and gave her the pretty woman treatment with his friend Linc helping him or rather prodding him. When a meeting at the party stole him away from her it was Linc who took her home when she ran from the party.
Alvinia wanted him back for whatever reason and the goth chipmunk, as Casey called her, wasn’t going to take him away from her even though he still told himself it was just pretend. Attacked at work, Casey is near death but pulls through only to have Nick by her side ready to open up and tell her the truth; that he is a vampire, and hoping she doesn’t run. But run she does…for donuts and coffee. Sweeping her away to his island they prep for a quick wedding but the crazy lady breaches the wards and gets her hooks into Casey and the only way to save her is to take the first step. A step that she might hate him for but the only thing Nick can focus on is his hope that Casey will fight back enough to get the bitch out of her head and open her eyes to see how much he loves her.
I loved loved loved this book! I saw so much of myself in Casey it was scary at first! I was like: did Candace write me as a character? Her body and her self image, her likes, her humor and her desire to be wanted by the sexy guy but giving up hope to go out with losers…. Hello! Been there done that. And Nick was so dayum sexy as he worked his way through his true feelings and emotions for Casey! I loved their banter, their connection and their delicious intimacies! Oh and Linc, Nicks best friend…. Yummy bonus candy! So hoping that Ms. Havens decides to continue this world with more stories in the future because one taste of this world was not enough.

I was given this book free through Net Galley and the publisher Entangled for my honest opinion in this review. \

Flirting Under a Full Moon by Ashlyn Chase

4 ½ Hockeystyxx

Brandee Hanson had been dumped again! This time by text.  How lame!  And announcing it to the entire restaurant made it even better.  The customers of Boston Uncommon were going to have a laugh tonight thanks to her and her ability to humiliate herself over yet another man.  And to make matters worse, her boss’s Aunt Sadie and resident “fortune teller” gives her a quick Tarot reading and her prospects were supposedly about to change for the good but….  What could be worse? The man who was supposed to be her “true love” just walked through the door and his name was “One-Night-Nick”.  Well not literally, but really didn’t that just suit her track record of a love life?

Nick Wolfensen had his reasons for never going out with a woman more than once and it came down to one word.  Soulmate.  He didn’t want to find his and as a wolf he mated for life and he just couldn’t take a chance that someday his mate would walk into his life and she might be the wrong choice.  If that dubbed him a playboy then fine.  If he couldn’t get Brandee, the sexy waitress at Boston Uncommon, to say yes to even one night –not so fine.

Changing his life style or rather his job thanks to him being “involved” with a couple of incidents which involved him and  his not so always law abiding brother (which was totally in the past), the cop found a new calling as a paranormal PI.  When his first case involves the mayors adopted daughter he goes to Sadie for some incite but learns that Brandee has an interest in the case too.  The young girl is her cousin and she wants to help and letting her get involved is just asking for trouble.  Trouble that escalates when he shifts to search for the missing girl and not only Brandee and her camera is there to capture it in beautiful sepia tones but someone who reports his screw up to the big boss of all of the paranormal races.  Mother Nature.  Brandee’s life-long dream was to be a professional photographer and when her camera, along with parts of her memory are gone she can’t stop herself from finding out the truth.  (Especially when Nick and possibly the sexiest full moon she had ever seen were involved.)   With a young girl still missing, the realization that Brandee might just be his soulmate and a rash of other obstacles to leap through and maneuver around, Nick must find a way to smooth over not only Mother Natures qualms about his missteps but listen to his heart and keep Brandee in his life for more than one night.

First of all I have to say this book is NOT realistic! Number one reasoning behind my opinion is the fact that no self-respecting hunk of a were-wolf would wear a polo shirt!  Fans of Ms. Chase’s last series will love the fact that a few of her beloved characters make their way into the storyline and especially for one character out in public at Boston Uncommon.  Mayhem and madness is the main plot line of this book.  It is funny, smart, snarky and chaotic and very fast paced which to some might feel a bit disjointed.  I loved it as I did the first series.  Paranormal creatures abound from Nick’s wolf to Sly’s vampire to brownies and ghosts and gods and shifters (oh my) and of course the aforementioned Mother Nature herself.  (Which I totally hear in the voices of Jingle and Jangle!)  If you are looking for a fun book that pokes at more than its share of non-traditional romance topics (for example stomachs that react to treats made with milk for our lactose intolerant heroine), that has a plethora of paranormal creatures and two lovers that race through a madcap adventure in the hopes of staying together for more than one night than this book is for you!  Can’t wait to see what mischief and madness Ms. Chase has planned for the next book in the series.

I am a WINNER!

As those who have subscribed to this blog know I am not only an avid reader and reviewer but I have recently took the GIANT leap into writing.  The book that has knocked around my head for over 2 years is MOSTLY out and typed out on a varied number of documents.  Taking advice from friends I saved in word, open office, drop box and google docs.  I think over the month there is over 15 different versions of it saved somewhere. In any case it is there, it is saved and hopefully it is good enough that someday someone will want to pay to read it.

I am not done however.  Sitting at almost 54K words, the story is not finished.  I still have at least one more hurdle for my characters to deal with but I kinda know what is going to happen.  What I didn’t know would happen along the way was the way the characters took control of the story and did what they wanted.  They were a lot more amorous than I thought at first.  Humping like bunnies might come to mind and not always behind closed doors. I have had a lot of support throughout this process and am already thinking of book two and maybe three…. crosses fingers. I found a photo that sums this up but unfortunately I do not have permissions to post but here is the link to where I tumbled  it…. I think it suits my book perfect! http://www.tumblr.com/blog/hockeyvampiress

I am posting the one and only excerpt here now…. please let me know if you like it!  Comment, like…. anything!!!!

Excerpt from Give Blood: Play Hockey

“What do you mean you told her about me? Dammit Larouche, why the hell did you use me as an example?” Xander loudly whispered while kneeling beside the chair that the woman from the hall earlier was currently slumped down in. Her skirt rising above the knee and revealing the tops of a pair of sexy as sin stockings attached to a pair of lacy garters and a glimpse of some equally lacy panties.

Phillipe sighed, shaking Xander out of his daydream, “Don’t worry Nik, I am sure she will come around and accept my offer when she comes to. She was the best candidate for the job so far and I don’t want her to get away.” Phillipe put his hand on Xander’s shoulder, “damn it I thought bringing a human onto the staff would be a bit easier than this.”

Maddie heard the voices arguing as she slowly regained consciousness. One deliciously familiar one with a slight Russian accent with a rasp that was beyond sexy and one that should ring a bell with a distinct French slant to it. What the hell happened? She never fainted. Her mother said it was because of her stout body (mother’s way in saying she was too fat to faint), her best friend said it was because if she ever did faint the fun bags would bounce her back up so fast no one would know she fainted anyway. Yeah they were on the plus side and according to most people in the world so was her waistline but hell in any case that was beside the point. She NEVER fainted. NEVER. So what the hell happened? She had been talking to Mr. Larouche, job interview going well then… Holy Crap! Xander Nikitin was a freeking vampire! OMG OMG OMG! And he was right here in the room with her. With Phillipe. Arguing about her. Cracking her eye open she had to confirm. Yep. He was there in all his sweaty sexiness sitting with his hand beside her knee head turned to argue with his boss. With the angle her head was at she could see he was a little under dressed. Damn he must have been in the middle of changing because all he had on were his hockey pants, socks and shin pads. Wow. The man even had sexy feet! How fair is that! Hold on. He wasn’t a man he was a vampire. You know Maddie. Blood sucking vampire!

“I think she is coming to. Ms. Avon? Are you OK. Can you open both your eyes and look at me?” Xander’s raspy voice begged her to return to face them.

Maddie peeped up at the most handsome man she had ever seen. Eyes that burned into her soul with one look, a colour so amazing she couldn’t even say which described them the best.  Light brown with a green hue and a golden aura washing over them.  “Erm. Is that safe?”

“What do you mean by safe Ms. Avon?” Xander questioned as he stood and handed her yet another of those deliciously cold water bottles.

“You won’t put me under your spell if I look into your eyes will you? I really want to be able to sit up right now and I want it to be under my own will,” Maddie said as she sheepishly smoothed her skirt down, realizing how much thigh she had to have been showing when Xander had been between her knees at her feet. Shit. How many times had she imagined that very thing? She sat upright in the chair she totally wanted to take home with her and calmed herself by rubbing her hands along the leather arms. Dang, a piece of office furniture should not be so comfortable.

“No Ms. Avon I am not in the habit of putting sexy young women under my hypnotic spell despite the way my kind has been perceived over the centuries,” Xander sighed. “I would like to talk to you further about what Phillipe not so smoothly spoke to you about earlier.”

“OK talk,” she said. Maddie had never thought much of the revelation about the paranormals before although in truth, it had explained a lot of questions she had about certain entertainers and a few other celebrities that were definitely not human. Never did she think about them playing sports let alone killing themselves to play her favorite game. Hehe, killing themselves she giggled to herself. She couldn’t give up so easy when it came to her dream though. Growing up with Holly’s brothers and seeing some of the horrors they had to deal with on the police and fire departments she knew that dangers and threats could come from humans just as much as they could come from paranormals. If truth be told, even more so at least in their area of the state. She looked up at Xander who was waiting for an answer and gave him a weak smile. “Tell me everything I need to know.”

This month I decided to jump in and go for it.  This book in my head has been jumping around there for over two years and it was begging to be let out.  Little did I know it would actually come out in the form of a pretty good impression of a real book.  Nobody else had tried it, and I kinda had been waiting for someone else to do it so I wouldn’t have to put myself out there and try it myself, so I put fingers to keyboard and came up with the first in what I hope to be a series of paranormal hockey romance books.  I am not done yet.  There is almost a week left to go and I just crested the 43K today.  One of the things I found out is that I write best between 11pm and 3am.  Not too good if you care to get some sleep in your night… or day.  LOL  In any case it is coming along pretty good.  I gave it to three very talented beta readers at different points in the story and I think their comments helped me quite a bit as I edited and reformed my writing around their suggestions which were right on.  I am not going to give too many spoilers but here is the blurb I wrote the first day to describe my idea for the book.  I am proud to say it is pretty much still on the same track as I had planned.  In addition to their help with this book I have already been prompted to get moving on books two and three thanks to a couple of secondary characters who are demanding their stories too…… damn sometimes these heroes and heroines are a bit cranky when it comes to getting their piece of the fun.  Thanks Cassandra, Stacey and Marnie (THE DEMANDING ONE) for helping me along.

Here is my blurb…

Xander Nikitin has been playing the game he loves for his entire life and despite the acceptance of supernaturals by the human population the world has yet to find out that the PHL was not your ordinary hockey league. As the league begins its media blitz after their  “outing” he can finally make some changes in his life.  Changes that include exploring a few of the tempting morsels that come out to support the team; especially the curvy new PR assistant who makes him dream of a more permanent connection.
Maddie Avon had always wanted to be a part of a team but thanks to a mother who thought that girls should wear dresses and not jerseys she never had the chance to play.  With the perfect job opening up with the Phantoms, Maddie hopes to not only be a part of the team but get a little closer to the sexy players; especially the sexy as sin captain who spends an awful lot of time in her fantasies.

Kissed by a Vampire by Caridad Pineiro

Alex Garcia had opened his eyes to see a beautiful woman beside him and his ex being held in the arms of another man before succumbing to the haze of pain after being shot. The undercover agent had to have been hallucinating anyway because the woman, no matter that she was beyond beautiful, had the fangs of a vampire peeking out from her luscious lips as she leaned over his still body. She still visited him in his dreams and there was no way he could allow his shrink to know about this especially if he wanted to go back undercover and get off desk duty and back to the streets working for the DEA.
Stacia loved her life as a 2000 year old vampire elder. She had strength, prowess and the ability to control others mentally especially those she had bitten or gifted with her vampire kiss. Moving to Miami to get away from the mess in Manhattan was for the best. No one knew her there and she could find lots of treats to keep her satisfied both in bed and with her other hungers here in the hot Florida playground.
Something about the man in the bar was different than any other she had used her powers on before and he was familiar to her as well. He challenged her, he provoked her and he stirred a desire that no other was able to satisfy. Alex could not believe that the demon haunting his dreams was the same woman stirring a desire he could not get out of his system. Working undercover to flush out those involved with the disappearance of his friends’ daughter and a possible white slavery ring, Alex is distracted by Stacia and frustrated by the lack of leads in the case. Giving in to their desires might satisfy an immediate hunger for both but if they look to find the truth they will realize that there is more to their connection then they ever imagined.
Sweaty, hot and steamy might describe the weather in this book but in this case it covers the intense chemistry and passionate love making of the sexy DEA undercover officer and his vampire lover. Alex is beyond delicious and smoking hawt. I, like Stacia, just wanted to take a bite. Oh and “sigh” he bites back. I slotted a big part of my day for this book because, as expected, I could not put it down. I love Caridad’s books. Her characters are so real and their emotions jump from the pages as you are wrapped up in their passions and their determination to “right the wrongs” they are fighting for. Stacia was not a heroine that I wanted to like in the beginning, in fact I was sure I would be solid in my opinion and still think she was a she-witch in the end but even she crept under my radar and made me root for her in the end. The Nocturne line is one I always try to find time for in my monthly reads and this one did not disappoint!

I received an ebook copy of this title from the publisher for my honest review. I also won the print copy from Ms. Pineiro. Thank you to both.
